Music Production Course

Ferndown Youth Centre is very pleased to announce that their “Introduction of Music Technology and Production” course will start again for the 2nd year on the 4th of November 2010.

The course is free of charge and will run on Thursday evenings after school during term time, I would be most grateful if you would pass this information on to your students aged 14 - 18. It is a strictly limited class of no more that 12 pupils working in pairs on computer stations with all the required software and instruments. A copy of the tutors enhanced CBR is available upon request.

This year the course will concentrate on Studio techniques where students will learn how to use Software Sequencers such as Cubase together with a whole range of Virtual Instruments, it will also look at recording techniques for vocals and instruments and how to combine these with non-acoustic recordings.
The course is designed to take novice or experienced students from the very basics through to finished mixes and full productions. By the end of the course our students will have the ability to record and mix their own songs on a computer in their own home.
No previous experience is required, but it is recommended that the students are currently studying some form of music at school and/or have a genuine interest in the subject.

Course Content : STUDIO TECHNIQUES – SEQUENCING – MULTI TRACKING – RECORDING VOCALS & INSTRUMENTS – DJ’ING TECHNIQUES & INVOLVMENT– MIXING – MIDI – SAMPLING – FX – MASTERING

The Course will taught by Adrian Clarida who is a qualified tutor with 22 years of experience of working as a Music Industry Professional, with a wealth of experience that includes working as a Record Producer for Universal/MCA with over 20 Single Releases, writing musical score for Eidos Playstation games, as the Technical Manger of Time&Space who distribute some of the most influential Virtual Instruments on the market today and running his own Record Shop & Label.

The course will suit both GCSE & AS/A Level students and has proven instrumental with some of last year’s student in choosing to study Music at AS Level.

We have included reviews from some of our students from last year who are continuing through to the 2nd year.

Jack Durham – Poole Grammar School

“I have been doing the course for an academic year and so far, I have learnt loads. Before I started in September 2009 , I knew nothing about VSTIs , samplers or any of that, and the only time I had seen Cubase before was when I was instructed to create a dance style song in GCSE music, my school teachers only very briefly covered it and I had no idea what Cubase could really do. But within a few weeks of the course I felt I could go home and try the things we had been shown, at home with no problems and create my own songs. Adrian has been very helpful in my learning and seems to know all there is to know about music tech. As well as learning lots, I feel that the course has been a lot of fun and I am looking forward to it starting again soon.”

Ben Mercer – Poole Grammar School

“The Music course carried out by Adrian has been really helpful in kick-start. Most normal teachers would throw you in at the deep end but Adrian breaks everything down and explains it without over complicating things. Another plus factor of the course is that it's very hands on, as soon as we learn something we get a chance to try it out and if we can’t do it we're led through it so we have a proper understanding before we proceed. Overall I think this is a very good course and is perfect for anyone with an interest in Music.”
